Description

American Eagle 750 Super Sport, manufactured by Laverda and sold into the USA by importer and distributor McCormack Inc. This model was based on the Laverda 750 S, the predecessor to Laverda’s famous racing model the 750 SFC. The McCormack venture was a marketing effort by Jack McCormack which failed due to the high price of the motorcycle coinciding with the launch of the Honda 750/ 4. Two versions of the Laverda 750 were offered, the Super Sport based on the Laverda 750 S and the Classic based on the Laverda 750 GT.
First registered on 1st January 1970, this American Eagle is believed to have been from a batch of 40 bike’s delivered to McCormack Inc in August 1969. The motorcycle was bought at auction in 2004 and imported to Sweden then sold into Norway in 2012 before being imported in to the UK in 2016. It is UK registered on an age related “G” suffix and benefits from Historic taxation class.
It has been restored to a high standard, looks, sounds and rides faultlessly. Some of the work includes, stripping all cycle parts, frame, yokes, swinging arm, shockers repainted in 2K gloss black, all chrome work and zinc plating refinished, bodywork painted in a candy ruby red with heavy flake replicating a finish that would have been fashionable in late ‘60’s California and believed close to original. The fibreglass coffin petrol tank has been professionally restored and was opened up along its original seam, all earlier failed tank liners removed and damaged fibreglass areas replaced before having the internal surfaces coated with an ethanol proof epoxy.
New parts include exhaust system, speedometer, front mudguard and bracket, fork gaiters, chain guards, handlebars, Verlicchi brake and clutch perch assemblies, choke lever assembly, Tommasellli throttle, side stand, brake, clutch, throttle cables and reupholstered dual seat.
The engine was serviced, clutch stripped, inspected and cleaned. Carbs, vapour blasted, ultrasonically cleaned and re-jetted. It starts on the button, no rattles or smoke and has a punchy, lively engine response; gear shift is positive with no false neutral and can be snicked into neutral at a standstill.
Matching frame and engine numbers.
A video clip of the engine running is available.
No expense has been spared bringing this motorcycle back into use and comes with a complete set of 750 S bodywork, as shown in the photographs, including a very rare screw cap camel tank. This makes for a more practical use of the motorcycle as the fibreglass tank has low fuel capacity
This is a bike for the discerning collector There can’t be many, if any American Eagle Super Sport’s available anywhere in this condition.
Any inspection welcomed.
