Description

Firstly I have full knowledge of the bikes past. First owner bought it from Revetts BMW, Ipswich on 18/ 03/ 77. My good friend (John) bought this bike from the original selling dealership as a straight PX with his Ariel Square 4 on 21/ 06/ 78. This was his first non British bike. I got to ride it when I was 17 (now 65) as my friend John wanted to have a ride on my brand new Kawasaki z650.
I bought the bike from John on 25/ 06/ 13 with just over 63000 miles on it. Up to this point it had 12 BMW service stamps taking it up to 60074 miles. 2 from Revetts BMW, 6 from Park Lane BMW and 4 Prophets BMW of Gerrards Cross.
Clearly I have more information on this bike than is practical to put in the advert so please do not hesitate to contact me so I can bore you to tears with information.
Why am I selling. I've been reducing my bikes from 6 down to currently 3 as I am just not riding as much as I use to and I want to get down to 2 bikes, 1 for work and my Triumph Thunderbird I've owned for 22 years.
The BMW runs perfectly and I have had the engine stripped down at approximately 65000 miles to the gearbox by a friend who runs a bike shop and was BMW head mechanic at Daytona Motorcycles and absolutely loves the old boxers. We decided to give it the once over as we were replacing the original clutch, not because it was giving any issues just because I thought it needed it. When we took the barrels off you could still see the original honing marks so it was just given a light honing to remove any glazing and a new set of oil and piston springs. All the internals were examined and nothing was overly worn but we replaced as a matter good maintenance things like 2nd and 3rd selector forks as they showed some wear, also big end shells, selector springs and many other small parts it would have been silly not to do while the engine was out. There is a comprehensive list of the parts that were changed in the file supplied.
I have avoided upgrading anything on the bike, other than a soft pull clutch kit and softer throttle springs, as I like the fact that it's original lived in condition is untouched. It still has the hand pump and the rear shocks only needed the rubbers changed at each end as they were perishing. I even left the small dent (pictured) to the rear of the tank as it is mentioned in the service book.
Obviously the bike comes with a box file of paperwork and many spares such as original crash bars, rack, panniers and odds and sods. I had the bike serviced last year and all oils were changed including the fork oil and I would be surprised if I have covered 400 miles since.
Please if you are serious about an original bike with a verifiable history please do not hesitate to contact me I am happy to chat.
I'm available Mon to Thurs from 5pm and the rest of the week I should be available any time.
