Description
Welcome to the sale of my 1993 Volvo 240 Torslanda.
This 240 was bought new at Kessells in Summercourt near Newquay Cornwall in May 1993 so one of the last ones. It has a great Cornish registration of RAF as well.
The couple who bought it lived in Bude and kept it for 31 years!! So 1993 until 2024!
This car has never been welded! The rear arches which are a rust area on these are like new and have never had to be repaired. The underside is totally solid and waxoiled to preserve it.
When I bought the car the odometer didn’t work so this was my first job. From what I’ve heard it wasn’t used very much, was annually Moted and was kept in the garage so I would say the car might have done a few hundred miles extra if that. It’s now on 124k.
The 240 was in great shape but after further inspection it needed plenty doing to it to get it to the stunning condition it’s in now with parts and work totalling around £3000!!
Starting off with the usual service item replacements including Oil and filter, plugs, distributor cap and rotor. I then replaced the front brake discs and pads due to surface rust. The wiper motor started to play up so a replacement was fitted and now works correctly again.
It has now also had a new Cambelt, water pump and water return pipe plus top and bottom radiator hoses. Another weak area are the wiring looms which go through the rear hinges to the tailgate. These have now been replaced plus both tailgate struts.
There were a few small marks in the paint which have now been professionally repaired and painted making it all over stunning.
Next I started on the lights. Brand new headlights were fitted from Brookhouse Volvo because the old reflectors had rusted and the plastic around the adjusters had broken. Both front indicator/ running lights replaced plus both rear light lenses.
Both Head light wiper arms were missing so some were sourced plus new wiper blades.
The old couple lost the service history but you can see various stickers in the engine bay and windscreen showing service due etc. I have lots of receipts for parts I’ve purchased and work done. The 240 had a recent advisory free MOT.
There is very little left to do to the 240. Obviously it’s not new but is still in fantastic condition and ready to enjoy.
The radio key code won’t work because a couple of the radio buttons don’t work to key it in. Powers up but needs looking at if you want radio originality. I just use a blue tooth speaker so never bothered me. Heater blower is a little noisy especially in positions 2 and 3 but works fine plus heater gets nice and hot. The drivers side Headlight wiper motor has stopped working recently but I’ve got the other disconnect so unless that bothers you it makes very little difference.
As stated bodily it’s beautiful. Has a small hole just by the headlight which you don’t really notice plus radiator lower support has some flaking but solid. I have walk around videos of the outside of the car, inside and underneath.
So to round it off one of the last 240s, Cornish car all its life, never welded underneath, and owned by the original owners for 31 years! Could be concourse with very little work.
It’s my fourth 240 and by far the most stunning condition one I’ve owned. If you’re hoping to come and nit pick it and get a massive reduction you’re wasting your time. I’m a genuine seller and I’m only selling because there are way to many cars out there to sample so hanging onto them too long isn’t my thing.
This Torslanda is up for sale at £7995 ovno. You’ll struggle to find one better for that price. I might p/ x deal American, early Citroens, Volvo 145, early 244 or 245, I love a 70s Lada, Air cooled VWs, Saab etc. Must be tax exempt.
