For sale: Studebaker Champion Regal Starlight Coupé from 1951, an iconic model from the American marque, instantly recognisable by its spectacular "Bullet Nose" front end and the distinctive Starlight body line.
The vehicle belongs to my uncle, now 82 years old, who wishes to part with it.
The car has been stored away in a garage for many years.
It was running when put into storage, but hasn't been used for several years. No recent attempts to start it have been made.
It is therefore offered as-is, with a full recommissioning and service required.
The engine is not known to be broken or out of service. It is simply an old vehicle that has been stationary for a long time. Before any return to the road, a complete inspection will naturally be necessary: fuel system, carburettor, ignition, battery, fluids, brakes, tyres, etc.
The car will need to be collected on a flatbed or trailer.
Bodywork
The Studebaker is complete.
Notably present are:
• the famous Bullet Nose front end;
• both grille sections;
• the bumpers;
• the main chrome trim and mouldings;
• the headlights;
• the glazing;
• the various bodywork elements characteristic of the model.
The car naturally shows signs of long-term storage and is currently very dusty.
It is located in an extremely narrow garage, which unfortunately makes it difficult to take additional photographs or to examine the underside, chassis or certain bodywork sections properly.
It is therefore offered as a project car for recommissioning and/ or restoration, with no warranty regarding its mechanical or structural condition.
Documentation
The vehicle has its French registration certificate.
The first registration date shown on the registration document is 20 October 1951.
The vehicle's paperwork is present and will be handed over to the buyer.
History
Several old photographs of the car have been preserved.
A photograph dated 1992 shows the Studebaker complete and running, with the same registration number it still bears today.
Another old photograph also shows it being used as a wedding car.
These documents preserve a record of the vehicle's history and show its appearance when it was still in regular use.
A particular story: "Joe le Taxi"
According to the known history of the vehicle and its owner's recollection, this Studebaker was also used during the filming of Vanessa Paradis's "Joe le Taxi" music video.
It is not the yellow Chevrolet taxi visible in the video.
The Studebaker is said to be the vehicle used in several shots showing the taxi driver inside his car.
We currently have no contract, production certificate or official documentation to formally confirm this participation in the filming.
This information is therefore given in complete transparency as part of the known history of the vehicle, and not as officially certified provenance.
