Description
** 1983 Volkswagen Golf GTI Mk1 Campaign – Mars Red**
A lovely example of the highly sought-after Mk1 Golf GTI Campaign, finished in iconic Mars Red.
As one of the final and most desirable versions of the Mk1 GTI, the Campaign features the distinctive Pirelli alloy wheels (with correct centre caps), twin-headlamp grille and other Campaign-specific details.
Over **£5, 000 has recently been spent on the car**, with a considerable amount of work carried out to make it a properly sorted and usable example rather than simply a car that presents well.
Recent work includes a ** full engine service, new cambelt, auxiliary belt, fuel lines, clutch cable, ignition components and oil pressure switches**, together with extensive attention to the electrics, including repairs to the dashboard loom, clocks, ignition, radio wiring and a full electrical function test.
The wiper mechanism has been rebuilt with an upgraded motor, the fuel pump and accumulator brackets repaired, brake lines cleaned and checked, and numerous other mechanical items attended to.
A lot of time has also gone into getting the details right. The dashboard has been repaired and strengthened, carpets and underlay correctly refitted, correct door grab handles fitted, door membranes replaced, locks repaired and re-keyed, arches and sill trim refitted, parcel shelf repaired, new driver's mirror fitted and numerous missing or incorrect trim pieces replaced.
Four new speakers and a new aerial have also been fitted while retaining the period appearance of the interior.
In short, this has had ** a great deal of recent expenditure addressing exactly the sort of age-related jobs that Mk1 Golfs tend to accumulate**, with many smaller jobs completed at the same time.
A very usable example of an increasingly collectible ** 1983 GTI Campaign**, in arguably one of the best colour combinations.
Further photographs, history and details of the recent work are available to serious buyers.
I bought the vehicle in 2012 and have used it sparingly since then, it has been dry stored in a barn and I no longer have the time to use it as I'd intended. I have most of the old MOTs and history. It's either been serviced by the ex chief technician of VW Ryemill in High Wycombe, or Crazy Quiffs Mk 1 specialists in Watlington.
