£14, 999 – Offers Over
Black Magic Pearl | 1 March 2008 | 18, 951 miles | 2 owners from new | Full Service History | Edition 30 No. 1906
A rare opportunity to acquire a remarkably well-preserved, exceptionally low-mileage example of one of the most celebrated modern Golf GTIs: the Mk5 Golf GTI Edition 30.
This particular car is a desirable five-door, six-speed manual, finished in Black Magic Pearl, with just 18, 951 miles covered in over 18 years. It has had only two owners from new, has been garaged throughout its life and benefits from an unusually comprehensive history, including its original documentation and a significant amount of recent preventative maintenance.
Provenance, history and originality
First registered on 1 March 2008, this is Edition 30 number 1906.
I am the second owner. Remarkably, the car has been maintained by the same technician throughout its entire life, initially at the supplying Volkswagen dealership, Specialist Cars of Aberdeen, and subsequently at Albyn Garage in Aberdeen when that technician moved there.
The car comes with:
* Full service history, with its original fully stamped service book and documentation wallet.
* Original factory RDS radio/ CD unit, complete with security code.
* Original supplying dealership number plates.
* MOT valid until 28 May 2027.
* Just 18, 951 genuine miles from new.
The car has clearly been cherished rather than simply used. Its condition reflects both its exceptionally low mileage and the care it has received throughout its life.
Recent maintenance and preservation
Importantly, this is not simply a low-mileage car that has been left standing without attention.
On 22 June 2026, at 17, 661 miles, the car received a replacement water pump and timing belt service.
It also sits on four Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres, all within their recommended age and with more than 5mm of tread remaining.
The underside deserves particular mention. The car has been protected against corrosion throughout its life and is rust-free, including underneath. During summer 2026, the underside was comprehensively ice-blasted and subsequently treated with clear Dinitrol corrosion protection, preserving its condition while allowing the original metalwork to remain visible.
The bodywork, interior, mechanical condition and underside all reflect a car that has covered fewer than 19, 000 miles in its lifetime.
Why the Edition 30 is special
The Mk5 Golf GTI is widely regarded as one of the finest generations of Volkswagen’s iconic hot hatch, combining an engaging chassis, beautifully judged handling and everyday usability.
The Edition 30, introduced to celebrate 30 years of the Golf GTI, took that formula considerably further.
At its heart is the 230 PS 2. 0-litre turbocharged EA113 BYD engine, rather than the standard GTI’s 200 PS unit. This higher-performance engine features strengthened internal components, including uprated pistons and connecting rods, together with the larger BorgWarner K04 turbocharger. It shares its fundamental high-output engine architecture with the contemporary Audi S3 and later Mk6 Golf R.
The result is a particularly characterful and responsive engine, with considerably more performance potential than the standard GTI.
The Edition 30 also received a distinctive collection of exterior and interior enhancements:
* Exclusive 18-inch BBS Pescara multi-spoke alloy wheels, finished in titanium grey.
* Colour-coded Votex front splitter, side skirts and rear lower bumper treatment, replacing the standard GTI’s unpainted lower trim.
* Darkened rear light clusters.
* Unique heated sports seats, upholstered in a combination of leather and distinctive Interlagos tartan cloth.
* Red contrast stitching on the steering wheel, handbrake and floor mats.
* The iconic dimpled golf-ball manual gear knob, a deliberate tribute to the original Mk1 Golf GTI.
These details make the Edition 30 something rather more special than a standard Mk5 GTI, particularly in original, unmodified manual form.
Condition
This is an excellent, beautifully preserved example, rather than a tired car dressed up for sale.
Having been garaged all its life, its condition is entirely consistent with its exceptionally low mileage. Naturally, it should be judged as a carefully maintained 18-year-old car rather than a brand-new vehicle, but examples with this combination of mileage, ownership history, provenance and preservation are increasingly difficult to find.
The car is ready to be enjoyed by its next owner, with the significant preventative maintenance already completed.

For someone looking for a genuine, low-mileage, well-documented Mk5 GTI Edition 30, this represents an opportunity to acquire a particularly special example.
Serious enquiries welcome. Viewing encouraged.
I bought this Golf because I’ve always regarded the Mk5 as one of the finest GTIs Volkswagen ever produced, and the Edition 30 as arguably the sweet spot of the entire range. I owned a normal mk5 in 2009, which I bought new when my kids were small - and it was brilliant - but I always wanted the special editon 30. It represents a time when Volkswagen really understood what made a hot hatch special: great engineering, an engaging chassis, strong performance and just enough character without being overdone, but could never find one that wasn’t modified or rusty.
What attracted me to this particular example was its remarkable condition, originality, exceptionally low mileage and impeccable provenance. Finding an 18-year-old GTI with fewer than 17, 700 miles, just one owner and a full service history maintained by the same technician throughout its life is increasingly unusual. And then there is the condition of this one which is unbelievable. It’s like a well cared for 2 year old car - not an 18 and a half year old car.
What makes the Edition 30 special is that it’s much more than a cosmetic anniversary model. The stronger, forged internals 230 PS K04 turbocharged engine, beautiful BBS Pescara wheels, subtle bodywork enhancements and distinctive interior make it feel genuinely special without sacrificing the everyday usability that made the Golf GTI famous.
My favourite thing? It’s an old-school driver’s car that still feels completely relevant today. The manual gearbox, compact dimensions, excellent visibility and wonderfully balanced chassis make it enjoyable at ordinary road speeds. It’s from an era before hot hatches became obsessed with enormous power outputs, complicated driving modes and artificial excitement.
It’s a proper GTI, and this one feels like a remarkably well-preserved piece of Volkswagen’s history.
