Description
The year is 1974. The turbulent Taishō-era in Japan had given way to the prosperous Showa-era, And Japan was in the midst of a boom, People were enjoying the exciting times that ensued, Stacks of bills were exchanged in a flashy manner and ladies danced wildly on the stages with fans in hand. Toyko was at the epicenter of technology advancements, And expensive items, such as real estate, securities, precious metals, and luxury cars, sold like hotcakes.
At the same time, Toyota Motor Corporation announced a new ultra-sporty coupe - The Toyota Celica , and despite a price tag of 1. 2 million yen at the time ( 10% higher than the Nissan Skyline GT-2000 on release, orders flooded in.. and when you are the original sample of a new species you become classic the day you are born. The Celica was years ahead of its time and thus.. time cannot touch it in a violent way. It remains classic and eternal at the same time.
So, If you always swear by British Leyland, then you might want to look elsewhere and if imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, Ford Detroit may face to the east and take a deep bow, for the inscrutable oriental gentlemen of the Toyota Motor Company have immortalised the once-dominating American automotive symbol of youth in genuine Japanese sheet metal. Some might even say that the Celica trumps the Mustang in stylings, and I wouldn't disagree.
I am the only owner since I imported it from Japan.
You're looking at the 1974 Toyota Celica TA27 - Draped in Toyota 338 Copper Metallic - she is the perfect example of the 1970's personified. Powered by a gorgeous sounding 2T-C Inline 4, 1600cc Manual 5 speed, The sweet symphony of naturally aspirated noise is something to behold. Throaty with an affirmative punch all exiting through a custom stainless steel exhaust for added decibels.
Since importing, I have replaced the top mounts with new ones, new window seals, dual exit stainless exhaust, fresh rear trailing arm bushes, and various other tasteful additions like wheel spacers just to make her sit a little more aggressive.
The bodywork is in lovely condition, this is a 50 year old car and has remained in great condition throughout its life. It was a 1 owner car in Japan ( with proof ) and the condition shows. The engine bay is solid, the struts are solid, the underside is solid and immaculately clean. The engine bay could do with a little 'tidy up' if I'm being picky.. as its showing some patina and age a little but everything runs sweet as a nut. Inside consists of FULL original interior.. Which is also a rarity these days. There are a couple of imperfections on the body which is to be expected with a car of this age, but overall - it is very very clean and very solid and is a real honest motor.
She fires up first time, every time.. And drives beautifully. The car pulls well in all gears and stops extremely well under braking. Steering is nice and tight, there is no 'floatyness' to it and she provides nothing but full confidence when driving spiritedly.
She sits on 14inch deep dish RAYS Volk Mesh wheels, JDM Period Correct. There are some lovely features like the 70s Nardi steering wheel, The rear window louvre which is incredibly hard to find and usually very expensive. Some other nice features consists of the factory fitted Air Con ( which still works ), Original Jeco Clock which also works, and the stunning 'Sebring' fender mirrors.
The mileage is currently on 103, 000km, Registered as a historic vehicle so she is MOT and TAX exempt. There was no history with the car from Japan which is not uncommon.
I am listing for the price of £24, 995 which I believe to be extremely competitive in regards to any other 70's Celicas for sale currently. I'll be honest, At the time of writing this, This is the only fastback Celica available for sale in the UK, Add to the fact that this is the JDM version of the Fastback which came with multiple styling differences such as the more stylish bumpers, the insanely gorgeous bonnet with those iconic vents, full OEM JDM Interior & Dash, And the stunning "Banana tail lights" which consists of the hidden Petrol filler cap inside the rear center garnish panel. If you know, You know.
With the car, I am also including a period correct front chin spoiler and a spare set of seats ( front & back ). And the original Celica steering wheel.
This is my 3rd Fastback Celica so I am no stranger to these, and I currently still own one myself - so if you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to ask. I can guarantee the first person to come and view her, and drive her, will fall in love. This is an EXTREMELY reluctant sale and is only really happening due to current storage issues.
I will require a NON-REFUNDABLE £250 Deposit for anybody wishing to secure the car. I am more than happy to take any potential buyer out for a test drive. The car is listed in other places and may be removed at any time.
