420A Turbo / Performance Information
For those interested in tuning the 420A platform, the original factory internals are generally considered suitable for moderate turbo applications, with approximately 200 hp being a sensible limit for reliable daily use, depending on tune, boost level and overall engine condition.
With forged pistons and connecting rods, together with an appropriate head gasket and compression-ratio setup, the 420A platform can be built for substantially higher power levels. Proper engine preparation, tuning and supporting components are essential for reliability.
There are 420A builds producing 700+ hp, but at that level the cost and complexity become significant. For a high-power build, an Evo 4G63T swap can often be a more practical and cost-effective solution.
Regarding chassis strength, the American-spec Eclipse is a relatively heavy car and the chassis is not particularly rigid compared with dedicated performance platforms. Nevertheless, the platform has been used successfully for very high-power builds, with the appropriate preparation and reinforcement where required.
