My Experience
This 968 has been my late-mid-life ‘sod it’ moment after suffering a loss in the family and a friend in quick succession. The specific model has a particular sentiment associated with it.
I bought the car from a serial Porsche owner (911 GT3, 924 Carrera etc) who had posted an ‘I have one for sale’ message on someone else’s wanted message on a Facebook group. I followed up a couple of months later to find it was still available and did a deal over the Whatsapp without having seen the car. Actually taking ownership was a bit more difficult due to time off available in my job and the car being in Cornwall (Optimistically a 4 hour drive from home). I eventually viewed the car under the cover of an Easter break in Newquay with family where it rained from the moment we left the M5 to the moment we got back on it. It was on this visit that I learnt that its previous owner was Veyron owning, Instagram resident, andy74B. I collected a month later when the vendor picked me up from Bodmin Parkway railway station after one of the most picturesque train journeys along the coast.
My first (real) drive of the car was 5 hours back to West Berkshire via the A303 where it performed effortlessly. Remembering it now still puts a smile on my face, the mid-1990s being relived as I sought out the most ‘cross country’ route home.
The car has been living in a Carcoon in my garage since that time, coming out for multiple trips including one into Hampton Court with my son in the middle of summer where it behaved impeccably. The car has flown through its MoTs at the local MoT station and last year it went to Northway Porsche (- details above) for a major service and brake fluid change where it was given a clean bill of health.
It received another 12 months ticket earlier this year but there are both Pros and Cons to having a car like this with a February MoT: the roads are covered in filth so even a quick trip to the MoT garage has meant it needed a wash before being put back in the garage; the car is then ready for another 12 months of driving, as soon as the sun starts shining again it can be taxed and enjoyed.
I have always been a keeper of my special cars; although my everyday cars have come and gone, I have owned the same 2 seater British sports car since 2001. My mindset has always been towards long term custodianship but when I bought this 968 I was warned that the transaxle cars are the gateway drug of the Porsche world. I am now looking to sell to feed the habit.
The job gets in the way again - viewings would need to be between 1st and 23rd November but almost any time/ day in that period. I have a Google folder with tons of photos and service history; drop me a message and I can grant you access. Calls subject to time zone differences until 29th
