The Porsche 968 Club Sport is now widely regarded as one of the finest driver’s cars of the 1990s. Developed with simplicity and weight reduction in mind, it combines Porsche’s wonderfully balanced transaxle chassis with the largest production four-cylinder engine of its era, creating a car that remains as rewarding to drive today as it was over thirty years ago.

Finished in the iconic combination of Speed Yellow with the correct black Club Sport interior and body-coloured Recaro hard-shell seats, this 1993 example is a particularly honest and well-preserved car that has clearly been cared for throughout its life.

Originally supplied new to Japan, the car remained there until 2012 before being imported into the Netherlands and subsequently registered in the United Kingdom in 2016. It has covered approximately 77, 000 documented miles from new and is accompanied by one of the most comprehensive history files we have encountered on a 968 Club Sport.

History & Provenance

One of the standout features of this car is the remarkable quality of its documentation.

The history begins with the original Porsche leather document wallet containing the factory warranty and maintenance booklet, together with the original Japanese service record book. These document regular servicing and maintenance throughout the car’s life in Japan, supported by numerous specialist invoices and inspection records.

The file also includes the original Japanese registration documents, the official Japanese Export Certificate together with its certified English translation, radiation clearance documentation issued prior to export, Dutch registration papers and export documentation, followed by the original DVLA registration correspondence following its arrival in the UK.

It is unusual to find such a complete documentary record following a car through three countries and over three decades of ownership.

The original instrument cluster was replaced during UK ownership at a documented 108, 362 kilometres (67, 333 miles). The replacement odometer has subsequently recorded 9, 818 miles, giving an approximate total documented mileage of 77, 151 miles (124, 165 kilometres). The change is fully documented within the history file and supported by subsequent MOT records and servicing, providing complete transparency throughout the car’s life.

Maintenance

The car has clearly benefited from careful and sympathetic ownership.

Its original Japanese service history is complemented by subsequent maintenance in both the Netherlands and the United Kingdom, with specialist servicing continuing following import.

More recently the car has benefited from substantial expenditure with respected Porsche specialists Tech 9 Motorsport, including:

Major service

Timing belt replacement

Balance shaft belt replacement

Air conditioning overhaul with new compressor and associated components

Brake fluid service

Fuel and air filters

Spark plugs

General preventative maintenance

This work totals almost £4, 000 and ensures the car is presented in excellent mechanical condition.

Additional invoices document ongoing maintenance including steering system refurbishment, wheel alignment, genuine Porsche replacement parts and regular servicing regardless of annual mileage.

Our Thoughts

Finding a good Porsche 968 Club Sport is becoming increasingly difficult.

Finding one that combines excellent presentation with such an extensive and well-documented history is rarer still.

This is a car whose history can be followed from first registration in Japan, through export to Europe and subsequent UK registration, with supporting documentation retained throughout. Together with its desirable colour combination, excellent mechanical condition and carefully preserved provenance, it represents a wonderful opportunity to acquire one of Porsche’s most engaging analogue sports cars.

The car will be supplied with a comprehensive history file together with a professionally prepared provenance dossier summarising its ownership, mileage and maintenance history from new.
