Description
According to data on ‘How many left’, only 56 of the entire XS range, 250, 400, 650, 850 & 1100 are either still on the road or SORN. I know for a fact that many of those have been chopped to Café racers and customs, not even close to original. So, this 250 is VERY rare & collectable.
It isn’t pristine or concourse. It’s in very good condition with just a few patina marks but very presentable.
Many parts are either no longer available, except as used and in worse condition than I have, or so extortionately expensive they just can’t be justified. The Non original parts are: Indicators, Flasher unit, Headlight Bracket, Front Mudguard, Mirrors, & Handlebars.
The V5 is in my name, It’s registered as Historic, so no tax or MOT needed. It costs me less than £100 a year to insure fully comp.
It’s solid, good tyres, starts 1st time every time on either the starter button or first kick of the kick start. runs like a dream, rides nicely, & everything works exactly as it should.
This isn’t a business, I do this as a hobby, it keeps me entertained on rainy days in the shed and sunny days outside. I get more out of working on them than riding them.
The parts, materials & costs of doing this one stand me in at £1500. That’s what it will sell for, not a penny less. Bank transfer preferred or cash, nothing else.
This bike was used for less 3 years from when it was new. It was already off the road and languishing in a shed in 1982, before it was due its first MOT, having covered less than 14, 000 miles.
It stayed that way until mid 2026 when I bought it from someone who was thinking of chopping it. It was far too good for that so I rescued it.
By September 2026, after a lot of, parts, a complete service, many hours of time & attention it took its first journey on the road under its own power on the 22nd September 2026. After a rest of over 44 years.
