Description
Indian 1933 “Standard Scout” 750 cc (45”) side valve V-twin, engine BCD 233
This Indian motorcycle has been fully restored by a skilled specialist and member of the Indian Motorcycle Club of Portugal.
I've had this motorcycle for over 40 years, completely original except for the following parts:
• The instrument panel switch is a replica;
• It has not yet been possible to find a replica accessory to replace the kickstart pedal;
• The gearshift knob is also not original.
I can send a video of this motorcycle in motion.
This Indian Standard Scoutt has portuguese documentation.
In 1929 the USA economy suffered through The Great Depression. The nation’s poor economy depressed motorcycle sales, including those of Indian Motorcycle
The Indian Scout was redesigned for 1932 with new-style, deeper gas tanks in a teardrop shape, coupled with sweeping fenders and was called Standard Scout. To avoid costs the Standard Scout now shared the frame of the Chief. The model gained popularity with police forces because it was a smooth running and vibrationless machine, meaning the new Scout was pretty much indestructible with its tough geared helical primary drive and under-stressed side-valve motor.
The 1932 and 1933 models still featured the helical gear primary drive from the twenties, but this was changed for the 1934 model year into a four-row multiple chain, probably also to cut production costs.
The Standard Scout was in limited production for some six years.
The dry sump oil pump began to be used in 1933.
