Description
Land Rover Freelander 1 TD4 Commercial
MOT June 27, Spares or repair.
We have owned this Freelander since 2017 and it has been trouble free until earlier this year when I noticed the coolant level had dropped. There were no obvious leaks, however, there was a trace of coolant in the oil when I serviced it. I suspected the oil cooler so changed it, which apeard to cure the problem. The symptoms returned a few days ago with coolant level dropping and no sign of external leaks. There is also some condensation on the oil filler cap, although the oil level does not appear to have increased and the oil still appears clean. I now suspect head gasket failure, which is rare on the BMW M47 diesel engine, but I cannot think of any other way that coolant could find its way into the sump. As I have almost finished restoring a classic Range Rover to use in place of the Freelander I have decided to sell it with the problem as spares or repair.
