These are becoming quite rare, there was less than 1000 sold in the UK, now only 356 licenced and 455 SORN according to the website “how many left”.
I spent ages looking for Lupo GTi that was in good condition mechanically and cosmetically, mileage didn't bother me as I intended to do an engine conversion and do something slightly different.
After many months of searching and looking at cars that had done 70k - 120k I eventually found this one and found it to be in very good condition, the best I could find at the time!
It's been well looked after and has a huge history, two service books, loads of invoices from previous services and repairs, the sales ad from the VW dealer it was bought from and 4 logbooks with previous owners. It even has all the old tax discs!
I bought this car with the intention of putting a Honda K20 engine and box in it whilst keeping it looking as standard as possible. Honestly, this car is far too good, original and honest in my opinion to cut the chassis leg and subframe and put a K20 in. Yes it is high mileage but it's genuine and solid, the folder of paperwork and history is huge, it's been every owners pride and joy.
The K20 engine, gearbox and other parts can be sold with the car if the new owner wishes to do something with it, they will have first refusal.
Since buying it in November 2025 it has had the following work carried out.
Full service carried out. (Engine oil and filter, new spark plugs, new coil pack, new uprated leads, new oil pressure switch, new cambelt kit and water pump, coolant changed, brake fluid changed, gearbox oil changed) (all oils used were Castrol)
New front and rear discs and pads
New front shock absorbers and springs
New track rod ends
New front lower arms
New front wheel bearings
New anti roll bar links and bushes
Genuine VW low mileage GTi ball joints fitted (x2 brand new RTS ball joints are also included as spares for future) (Lupo GTI ball joints are notoriously hard to get hold of, genuine is no longer available and only RTS are the correct type)
4 wheel alignment carried out to the correct specification.
The alloy wheels have been refurbished by the previous owner at sometime.
4 recently new Michelin pilot sport tyres (195/ 50/ 15) these do not rub on full lock.
Passed its MOT in April 2026 with no advisories.
Overall it's in good condition inside and out, the roof lining isn't sagging (common issue), the electric windows work correctly. The paint work is very good apart from some small scuffs on the front bumper at the bottom and some small stone chips on the rear lower quarters. HPI clear too, never been in a accident or insurance claim!
It has the original panels and glass (apart from the windscreen), the bonnet, wings and doors are aluminium.
It has 2 keys, one needs a new battery. The central locking will intermittently bounce back up, I would suspect needs a door latch but locks on the key and stays locked. The reverse light switch needs replacing as sometimes the lights don't come on, usually when cold but work when it's warm.
£4000 for the Lupo.
£5000 for the Lupo and:
K20z4 engine, gearbox, loom, ECU, drive shafts, throttle pedal, o2 sensors, gear selector, gear cables. All removed from a 2007 civic type r that had done 130k that I drove and removed the engine from so it is in good condition. (These engines with good gearboxes that have done this mileage usually sell for £1500)
