Exterior colour burgundy over cream white, burgundy wheels, beige mohair hood and bonnet cover. Beige leather interior, burgundy carpet edged with beige piping.
The MG SA, a 6-cylinder 2. 3-litre car, was launched in 1935.
This model was developed to offer MG in the upper tier alongside Alvis, SS and Lagonda. This MG SA chassis left the factory fitted with a saloon body.
Between 2002 and 2009, it was restored and given a special open-tourer body of breathtaking beauty, in the Swiss Keller style. This artisanal ash-frame body was supplied and installed by SVW Ltd., specialists in MG SA/ VA/ WA in Hull. This famous British company built seven Keller-style bodies. At the end of the 1930s, twelve chassis of this style were built in collaboration with Keller and Reinbold & Christie in Zurich, Switzerland.
One of the original Keller cars is still known in the United States.
This magnificent MG SA Keller Special is one of seven recreations built by SVW Ltd.
The MG SA chassis, restored and overhauled, retains original components with a few improvements.
The body comprises an ash frame, metal panels and aluminium doors. Features and enhancements.
The 2. 3-litre engine was enlarged to 2, 560 cc with a higher compression ratio of 8:1. Larger valves (MG VA) were installed, the crankshaft was re-ground and balanced. MGA-pistons, weighed and balanced, connecting rod bearings and a lightened flywheel were installed. A faster camshaft was fitted, an optimised oil pump and reinforced valve seats were installed to permit the use of lead-free petrol. The radiator was upgraded with a 4-core cooling block instead of the original 3-core and an electric cooling fan.
The original gearbox was overhauled with new parts and a synchroniser. The chassis and suspension were upgraded with telescopic shock absorbers, reinforced springs (the second leaf spring from the top is 1 mm thicker), 72-spoke wire wheels shod with Blockley tyres and a hydraulic braking system with two primary shoes on the front drum brakes.
Additionally, a larger fuel tank (75 litres) was installed and EZ electric power steering was fitted. The original hydraulic jack system ‘Jackall’ is still present on the chassis.
This magnificent MG SA Keller Special is in exceptional condition and handles exquisitely! Only 2, 738 MG SA chassis left the MG factory at Abingdon-on-Thames.
This magnificent MG SA with its Keller-style body is a true marvel!
