If you love the mysteries of automotive history, the story of the Deluxe RS Ex13/ 66 series will surely captivate you. The final chassis from 1966, numbered from #304703 to #304955, were set aside to receive special treatment by Porsche. However, all of these cars were presented as 1967 models.

According to some unofficial sources, these chassis were used to homologate the improvements of the forthcoming 911 S, the early models of which ran on 1967 chassis starting at #305001. Others claim it was a marketing ploy to shift the last 1966 chassis that struggled to sell with the imminent arrival of the 911 S 1967.

Officially, Porsche recognises the existence of this special series, but never adds details about its history. What you need to know is that RS stands for Rundenschreiben, literally an internal company note. This 911 series is therefore not the origin of the RS acronym we have known since 1973 with the 911 2. 7 RS, which stands for RennSport.

It is not possible to distinguish a 911 DeLuxe RS from a standard 1967 911. The only evidence of this especially special series lies on the Kardex, which bears a handwritten note: “Modell 1967 911 DeLuxe R. S. Ex 13/ 66”. All 253 Kardexes were penned by the same hand.

History: This 911 was originally delivered new in France, to Sonauto Paris. It appears to be the only 911 DeLuxe RS delivered in France. Its entire life is documented, with the various registration documents, the Kardex, and a certificate of authenticity.

After delivery in Paris in 1967, the car went to its new owner in Corsica in 1982. It wasn’t until 2016 that this SWB returned to the continent. After a substantial mechanical restoration in 2016 in Marseille, a Luxembourg collector took possession of this 911, until it was bought by the current owner in 2021.

Condition: Overall: This RS DeLuxe is in good general condition. Several alterations have been made during its life, including engine tuning, and a tripmaster for historic competition purposes.

Exterior: #304771 left the production line in a Light Ivory shade #6604. It was subsequently repainted in its current Tangerine colour. The paint is period-correct and shows minor defects and stone chips.

Interior: The cabin is in excellent condition. The original faux leathers look particularly good, well taut with no discoloration or tears. The dashboard is also in excellent condition, as are the carpets. All instruments are functional. The 4-point roll bar is original (Sport Purpose Programme), as are the seats.

Mechanical: ENGINE: This engine still retains its original aluminium block from the early 911/ 2. 0 models. It is type 901/ 01 with serial number 908014. Like all 2. 0s, displacement was 1991 cm3 with 80mm bore, 66mm stroke and 42/ 38 mm valves. At the end of the 1966 model year, the last 253 chassis received the RS Deluxe designation featuring various modifications compared to the standard engine, notably Weber’s setup and cams (Sport kit) ahead of the 911 S.

In 1966 Porsche launched the Sport Purpose Programme or Factory Sport Kit to enhance engines and homologate parts for racing or future 911 S models. This engine had already been upgraded with Sport Kit components, as seen in its full rebuild:
- Weber IDAS carburettors from the SPORT KIT, used on the early 911 S series (not the IDS from later S versions).
- SPORT KIT camshafts, which would be used on 911 S produced from August 1966
- Spaghetti exhausts (3x1)

This engine, already a Sport 170 HP (customer racing) unit, was further improved by a configuration akin to the 1969 911 ST racing setup for short-circuit racing, resulting in a displacement of 2, 530 cm3 thanks to:
- 90 mm high-compression pistons (10. 5:1)
- Original 2. 0 crankshaft from 1966 racing, lightened and balanced with its flywheel and reinforced clutch mechanism
- Valves: 46x40
- SPORT KIT Weber IDAS carburettors, but with large venturis
- SPORT KIT camshaft with reinforced valve springs
- Polished and lightened connecting rods
- Reinforced oil pump
- Stainless steel spaghetti exhausts in 42mm diameter
