Presented in 1994 at the Paris Motor Show, the Alfa Romeo GTV (code name 916) succeeds after a few years of absence its homonymous predecessor, the Alfetta GTV. It is Pininfarina who signs the design of this elegant, low, wide and aggressive car, with a very steeply raked windscreen and rear window. It is recognisable by the very pronounced “V” on its bonnet that starts at the windscreen pillars to surround the famous Alfa Romeo badge.
The sides, marked by a deep crease, emphasise the sporty character of the model. From launch and until 2004, the cabriolet variant will be offered: the Spider. From the outset of its sales it features the 4‑cylinder Twin Spark engines as well as the 3. 0 V6 12‑valve “BUSSO”.
The late-1998 facelift brought a host of updates: redesigned dashboard, new centre console, new seats very inspired by the Ferrari 355, and above all the fabulous 6‑cylinder 3. 0 is topped with a 24‑valve cylinder head that lifts power from 192 to 218 bhp, with a sound ranging from rough to shrill, inimitable and hypnotic. For automotive testers, this “Busso” is one of the best six‑cylinder engines available in a road car of that era. A few miles at the wheel are enough to convince you.
This is indeed the model we are offering you, in its top‑spec “Lusso,” in Blu Lightning metallic with black leather interior. It was delivered new in France on 27 February 2001 and has had four owners to date. Its last owner, a discerning collector of very fine Italian cars, is parting with it reluctantly because he owns three!
