Ma Youngtimer today takes you to Stuttgart with a magnificent Porsche 911 type 996, one of those pivotal cars marking the great transition of the 911: the first water-cooled generation, blending classic charm with modernity confidently embraced.
The example we are offering is a Carrera 4 in remarkable condition, carefully pampered by its successive owners.
Originally delivered new in Italy on 14/ 03/ 2000, it remained with its original owner until 2017, when it was imported into France with 142, 000 km.
Until 2021, it belonged to its first French owner, who then sold it to the current owner, a car collector, as the odometer showed 149, 000 km.
The latter has taken meticulous care, respecting the spirit of the car and anticipating potential issues.
The 996s from this year are less affected by IMS issues than some produced from 2001, but the current owner chose serenity: the IMS bearing (replaced with a strengthened unit) was proactively replaced in a renowned workshop, as was the clutch, at 150, 000 km.
In the same vein, the entire suspension system as well as all underbody covers have been replaced.
Result: a 911 ready to hit the road, sound, reassuring and perfectly suited for regular use or as a first Porsche.
On the exterior, in its Ocean Blue Metallic colour, the car stands out clearly.
The appraisal carried out in 2021, as well as our own observations, reveals no major faults or declared incidents.
The panels are aligned, the overall presentation is very tidy, and the car sits clearly above many 996s offered in the same price range.
At the rear, the 'mechanical cathedral': the 3. 4 L flat-6 developing 300 hp delivers exactly what one expects from a 911.
The sound, despite the original exhaust system, is full of character and matches pulled revs with clean, linear power delivery.
The manual gearbox fully contributes to the driving pleasure, while the all-wheel drive lends reassuring traction, even on wet roads.
Comfortable on long journeys, nimble on winding roads, this Carrera 4 is an ideal touring companion.
Today, the Porsche 911 type 996 still represents the most affordable 911s, and that is precisely what makes it an attractive opportunity.
They embody the perfect balance between a so-called 'classic' car, with authentic sensations and still compact dimensions, and a modern car, equipped with the comfort, safety and performance expected of a contemporary 911.
Older 911s have already seen price hikes, while newer models remain at notably higher price levels for now.
The 996 thus stands out as a safe value, both for a reasonable investment and for the pleasure of owning a 'real' 911 in your garage, versatile, usable, with which you can travel with confidence.
The car is sold with its appraisal report as well as a file of invoices for major work carried out, notably IMS, clutch and suspensions.
