Description
The Morris Eight is a small family car produced by Morris Motors from 1935 to 1948. It drew on the commercial success of the Ford Model Y, whose styling was scrupulously copied.
The car's success allowed Morris to regain status as Britain's foremost car manufacturer.
It was powered by a Morris UB series 918 cm³ four-cylinder side-valve engine, featuring a three-bearing crankshaft and an SU carburettor, developing a maximum power of 23. 5 bhp (17. 5 kW).
The gearbox had three speeds, the top two gears being synchronised, and the vehicle was fitted with Lockheed hydraulic brakes.
Ignition was provided by a coil, integrated into a Lucas electrical system powered by a 6-volt battery and a three-brush dynamo. The bodywork, available as a saloon or a cabriolet, was mounted on a separate U-section chassis with a wheelbase of 2. 29 m.
The designation “Series I” was used from June 1935, as with the other Morris models. Cars built before this date are referred to as “pre-series,” although Morris Motors' official designation is based on the model year (35), even though they were marketed only in October 1934.
The Morris Eight offered here is therefore a pre-series. It was delivered new in June 1935.
From 1986 to 2025, this Morris had only one owner, who fully restored it during the first two years. The restoration was completed in 1988 and the Morris was registered in the Netherlands.
In recent years the car has been kept in running order and requires recommissioning.
A new battery has already been installed, the ignition works and fuel is reaching the engine. The engine turns very well but has not yet started; fuel will probably need to be added and the spark plugs replaced.
The car is sold with a Dutch registration. For international customers, we can deliver the Morris with the necessary export documents. We can also assist with transportation.
