1998 Ferrari F355 Spider – Auction Car of the Week

The Ferrari F355 was peak Ferrari. That’s it. We will entertain no counter argument, we will listen to no reasoning that suggests otherwise, peer reviewed, littered with expert testimony, fact checked – we don’t care. F355 or nothing. And yes, some will clear their throat and scream “250 GTO” or “F40” but they don’t count, because we’re talking about attainable Ferraris. Not models that make Top Trumps players tremble with excitement. For a Ferrari that someone without fourteen properties can afford, the F355 was it. Especially if it was a Spider. And yellow. You know, like this 1998 Ferrari F355 Spider currently available on Car & Classic Auctions.

Automotive perfection right there, and yes before you ask, it does have the gated manual, otherwise we wouldn’t be nearly as giddy right now. It’s also got a mere 32,699 miles on the clock. The history file is substantial, the condition is near perfect and the whole thing is, as a result, utterly jaw-dropping. It is the epitome of F355 spec. Boss level. The king. One not to be missed. Again, just look at it. The balance, the profile, the timeless design. Oh if only Fezza still made cars like this rather than those Playstations on wheels they offer now. Ugh.

Quite why this rolling work of art only has 32K on the clock is beyond us. Were it ours, it’d be about 323k by now, and still climbing. But, then, maybe we just answered our own question. Maybe the past owners planned to do all the miles ever, but instead found themselves just staring at it without being able to even contemplate the notion of looking away. You know, like the F355 was some sort of yellow, V8-powered Medusa. Though presumably staring too long only results in a cold sweat and a not insignificant amount of arousal instead of, well, turning to stone. Anyway, enough mythology.

Now there’s a picture you can hear. The 3.5-litre V8 in the F355 is a soulful, sonorous work of art. This one, despite the low miles, has been serviced every few thousand miles with documentation to show. This includes belts and other parts as and when the hands of time dictated. In fact, the whole car has been maintained as it should be. No expense has been spared, which is why this example is so very special. It stands with an MOT until May of 2024 and it’s ready to go, once you drop the winning bid of course.

This is a magnificent machine, and one that has been maintained to an exceptional standard. If you can pull yourself away from just staring at it, you will be presented with a car that will electrify and invigorate every time you take it for a drive. A nice country road, a track day if you’re brave enough, maybe a spirited blast through the equally beautiful hills and valleys of Europe. We would, however, avoid San Francisco, especially if Nicholas Cage and Sean Connery are in town. Or even just to the shops. Whatever your rationale, it can only become a reality with a bid, so head over to the action for this 1998 Ferrari F355 Spider and do the right thing. You know it makes sense.
