2019 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio NRING – Auction Car of the Week

What? A car from 2019 here on the digital pages of Car & Classic? You bet’cha. And the reason is twofold. Firstly, we don’t just dabble in the world of classic cars. We also like a specialist car, and this car can most definitely dig into that hill. Secondly, this car is incredibly rare, being one of just twelve built in right-hand drive configuration. Welcome, dear reader, to the rip-snorting, untethered nutter that is the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio NRING Edition. It’s an impossibly long name for a car, granted, but let’s not get hung up on that. Instead, let us lose any sense of sensibility to the raucous thoughts of an Italian thoroughbred with north of 500bhp being shot out from its glorious, sculpted, 19-inch alloy wheels. This is not a car, it’s an event. It’s a celebration of automotive soul, of passion and where the law permits, speed. How much speed? 191mph. That’s a lot of speeds. Many, many speeds in fact.
The Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio was already a wild beast. It took the handsome four-door saloon Giulia and gave it some serious bark. The engine, a 2,891cc 90 degree V6, was designed by Ferrari technicians, it had two single-scroll turbochargers and the whole thing kicked our 503hp and a planet-spinning 443lb ft of torque. All through the rear wheels. The Quadrifoglio name relates to the four leaf clover, it’s not Italian for four-wheel drive. The car also had carbon fibre parts like the roof and bonnet, it had flared bodywork, bucket seats and a whole lot more. It showed BMW’s M3 and Mercedes-Benz’s C63 AMG that fast cars could have soul as well as outrageous power. Very Italian.
So what of the car we have here? Well, the ‘standard’ Giulia Quadrifoglio landed in 2015. In 2018, to celebrate the company’s impressive times at the Nurburgring, it released this, the NRING Edition. The engine and transmission (in the case of this car, an eight-speed ZF auto) remained the same, but the car gained carbon-ceramic brakes, Sparco carbon fibre seats, carbon fibre interior trim and carbon fibre exterior touches like mirrors and grille surround, oh and a coat of satin Circuito Grey paint. Only 108 were produced, and of those, only twelve were right-hookers.
Needless to say, the Giulia Quadrifoglio NRING is a car people want. The stock Quadrifoglio is a car people fight to own, so you can imagine just how much they want this NRING version. And make no mistake, this particular example is the one to have. There’s the fact you sit on the correct side, of course. But then there is the fact is has just 9,100 miles on the clock. It’s been serviced as required, despite the low miles. It comes with the 1:18 scale model it was sold with, and the racing shoes it was sold with, racing gloves and factory certification. This is as close as you can get to buying a brand new one. If you’re serious about cars, and passionate about the igniting of a great deal of petrol, this is the car for you. A halo moment of motoring. A remind from Alfa Romeo that when the mood takes it, it can rock the motoring world to its core and remind its peers just how it’s done.
Currently for sale on Car & Classic Auctions, this is not a car that is likely to be seen for sale again. Sure, you could buy a C63 or an M3, but where’s the fun in that? Where’s the exclusivity and the excitement? The Alfa Romeo name is one synonymous with passion, power and art. Something this car embodies in spades. This is car that will make you love driving again. Trust us.
