Worx 20V Cordless Inflator – Product Review

If there is one thing classic cars love doing, it’s leaking air. You can have new wheels, new tyres, new valves – you’ll still open the garage to a flat more times than you’re willing to accept. It’s just the way of the classic car world. Then, of course, you have to pump the tyres up. You get your inflator, and then untangle it all, then find your 12V socket doesn’t work – if you even have a 12V socket. or, even worse, you have to use the foot pump. No thanks. What we need is a battery-powered solution. Something like, say, this nifty Worx 20V cordless unit. Lithium-ion power, loads of pumping power, and impressively robust construction. This is the solution we need.

The Product
From the range of Worx 20V tools comes this stocky little cordless tyre inflator. It’s powered by, as the name suggests, the 20V range of batteries. The same batteries that power a multitude of devices, such as the Hydroshot unit we tested a few weeks ago. In terms of buying it, you can buy the bare unit, or the kit that comes with the battery and charger should you not already have it. This does of course make it more expensive, but it also makes any future Worx purchases less expensive, as you already have power.
The Worx 20V inflator is a sturdy little unit. Very well built indeed. There is a digital readout, which is child’s play to use. Plus, minus, start and stop – couldn’t be simpler. There is a robust air hose fitted, which clamps onto the tyre valve with serious gusto. You also have attachments for inflating other items, such as footballs and air beds. The unit has ‘feet’ so it won’t fall over, and fully charged, the battery seems to last forever – figuratively. The inflator obviously doesn’t ask a lot of it. Yep, just from the moment we opened the box, we were impressed. A carry handle is built into the design, and there is even a torch/red flashing emergency light built in, too. Very, very nice.
The Test
We’ve been living with the Worx 20V inflator for a while now, and in a nutshell, it has never once let us down. We’ve used it on cars various times, of course. We inflated an air bed with it, beach inflatables, footballs, the hamster, bike tyres. It pushed in peak psi with ease. It’s quick, taking a car tyre from flat to full in a couple of minutes, and the digital readout tells you the starting pressure and shuts off when the goal pressure is reached. The four buttons are no more complicated than a cheese sandwich, and well, it does what it says on the tin.
The Result
It’s a noisy little beast, but find us a tyre inflator that isn’t. Compressing air is a noisy affair. The battery stays charged for an impossibly long time, and has a press button on it that gives a power level read out. It’s just a great, sturdy, quick, easy device to use. Just keep the battery charged up, keep it in the boot or in the garage, and never be inconvenienced by absent air ever again. We left this in the boot of the Vitesse for ages, and it was always ready and willing to move air. In fact, only today have we put the battery on charge. And remember, that battery can power all manner of other Worx 20V tools. Nice.
The Verdict – 5 out of 5
Buy this, throw away all your old tyre inflation devices. This is the one. It’s not the cheapest, especially if you need the battery and charger. However, quality costs. We get the impression this has years and years of life left in it. And for that, £100 isn’t too bad at all. Plus, the Worx customer service is excellent, you get the battery compatibility with other tools and you get something that is really very well made indeed.
