Worx Hydroshot – Product Review

We don’t all have the luxury of convenience. For some of us, our cars are tucked away in a garage or unit separate from our house. You might live in a flat, you might not have a driveway, and you might not have a hosepipe. But that doesn’t mean you can’t have a clean car! We all love a good jet wash, as there is no finer way to knock the dirt and dust off our machines. And in the case of the Worx Hydroshot, you don’t need any special facilities other than running water. This is a revelation, a brilliant idea that we’ve all been waiting for. Well, it will be if it’s any good. Let’s find out.

The Product

The Worx Hydroshot seems like one of those ‘too good to be true’ things, which is understandable as we associate a good jet-wash with plugs and hoses and so on. Can something powered by a clip-in lithium-ion battery really offer the same cleaning ability? Well, here’s the thing. No, it can’t. But, it can offer something very, very close. The Hydroshot isn’t here to reinvent the wheel or be the best jet-wash in the world. It’s here to work, and it’s here to offer hitherto unseen levels of convenience. That is where it excels.

As for the options, you can have a brush motor or a brushless. We went for the former, as it’s cheaper. We did opt for two batteries though, just in case. We’ll come to that later. The kit comes with the lance, the jet-wash unit, a brush attachment, a snow foam attachment, a hose with filter, a charger and even a collapsible bucket. Neat. All you need is running water and a bit of electricity to charge it up. The unit itself seems to be very well made indeed, and features a standard locking hose point (Hozelock style, to use a brand name), so you can use it with a garden hose if you do indeed have one.

The Test

We’ve lived with the Worx Hydroshot for a while now, using it for all manner of things, from cleaning the car, to washing windows and even cleaning the outside balcony floor. And in all, it has excelled. The Hydroshot is not, however, for blowing the barnacles off a ship’s hull, it claims to be 10x more powerful than a garden hose, and that seems about right. For general, around the home needs, that’s ample. Plus, the head of the lance features an adjustable spray pattern wheel so you can get wide, narrow, spray or even mist settings. You can also do without the lance completely and just use it as an in-hand water pump of sorts.

The attachments all work really well, too. The hose, the most important bit, comes with a foam bob and a cleanable/rinsible filter so you don’t suck up any debris. There is also a clip to hold the hose to the bucket. However, we would suggest using a proper bucket. The collapsible one is a nice addition, but it’s not great for this. Then you have the battery. We went for two, as we thought washing a car might drain one. We were wrong, as the batteries last for a good while, and they charge up very quickly indeed. There is also a little LED indicator on each battery so you can see how much power is left, to a fashion. The only caveat to using the Hydroshot is that you might need to do a manual ‘syphen’ on the hose to get the water up. At least, that helped in our experience. The Hydroshot unit will do it, but it takes a moment. And you’re just wasting battery.

The Result

For the money, we were really, really pleased. This is a truly fantastic, well made bit of kit. It does exactly what you want it to, it’s dead easy to use and it means for the first time in a long time, we can clean our car properly (this writer lives in a flat). It’s every bit the revelation we hoped it would be. Then there are the other applications. You could have it in the boot and take it to a car show so you can be gleaming when you get there. You can use it anywhere, as there is no hose or cable restriction, or on the flip side, you could use it with the garden hose, meaning you only have to drag one thing behind you. It’s brilliant. And we wouldn’t be without it.

The Verdict – 5 out of 5

The price is great (around £130 in this case), you get all manner of additional bits, it’s very well made, the batteries last, you’re not going to be filling up the bucket every three minutes as it doesn’t use as much as you might think, and it cleans whatever you point it at like a boss. What’s not to like?
