OK, we’d like a quick show of hands please. Who here has attempted to remove a piece of interior trim with a screwdriver, a butter knife, voodoo magic or via myriad other methods that aren’t actually the correct tool for the job only to have said piece of trim snap clean off, accompanied by a shameful diatribe of four letter expletives? The Product

According to the company’s blurb Wetado is a car tools brand dedicated to providing innovative, cost-effective and quality products. They have a range of trim removal tools and kits but the eight piece bundle we recently picked up seemed to cover most bases for our particular needs. What you get are seven double-ended tools of varying shapes and sizes specifically designed to remove trim, clips and fastenings without damaging them or the surrounding area. The eighth piece is a more heavy duty dedicated fastener removal tool for when you need a little extra leverage.

The tools are made of lightweight, ergonomic impact resistant nylon fibre with a matt surface which won’t scuff your panels. The fastener removal tool is made of high-quality, corrosion resistant alloy steel and features a rubber button allowing you to quickly and easily remove door panels and interior trim clips without damaging them. Instructions are included with the kit too, explaining the various different uses of each tool.

The Test

The additional, boot-mounted brake light on our Volvo 940 Turbo estate recently decided to stop working because old car. It’s not an MOT failure but we can be guilty of perfectionism here at Car & Classic and so the decision was made to take a look at the problem with the intention of fixing it. The Result

The tools feel well made and with a little give they inspire confidence to lean into them without fear of them snapping. The Dedicated fastener remover feels particularly sturdy and we were able to quickly and easily remove the necessary trim to get to the brake light and replace the bulb without any catastrophes or damage of any kind. After some initial trepidation for fear of snapped fastenings we quickly realised that with these tools the risk of any breakages is significantly diminished, allowing us to crack on with confidence and fix our brake light.

The Wetado Trim Removal Tool Kit is a must have for anyone messing about with their car’s interior. Yes, there is always some danger of damage, especially with older vehicles, but with these tools and a little mechanical sympathy those dangers can be all but circumvented entirely. Never again will we attempt to remove any trim without this kit to hand, hopefully preserving the life of our interiors in the process as we continue to replace, renew and improve.
