After the wartime interlude of the last century, Mercedes Benz returned to motorsport in the early ’50s with its exceptional racing car. In 1952, it ranked second in the Mille Miglia in ’52 and won the 24 Hours of Le Mans, as well as the Carrera Panamericana. Not only did the car reaffirm the role of the Stuttgart-based company on the international motorsport scene, but it also segued into production as as a more comfortable, road-going version, winning the hearts of enthusiasts with its bold styling and innovative solutions combined with outstanding performance for the time. Only 1,400 examples were built and the impressive exhibition will feature several Gullwing models as well as a Roadster version.

This year also marks the 40th anniversary of the Ferrari Testarossa. We celebrated the old girl’s birthday recently but suffice to say this mid-engined V12 grand tourer is an iconic car that’s etched into the collective memory of several generations of motoring enthusiasts. Created in the ’80s as an evolution of its predecessor, the 512 B, it was Cavallino’s first supercar, as well as Maranello’s only mid-engined grand tourer of the time and its reworked features, captivating lines and extremely high performance ensured it was a commercial success, with more than 10,000 units sold over 12 years. At Milano AutoClassica 2024, the celebrations will culminate in a rally planned for the Saturday.
