Everrati – A Porsche 964 For The Future

The trend for converting classic cars to run on nothing more than the power of some batteries is, love it or hate it, one that is growing at a rapid rate. Some might argue that it’s not the right thing to do, and that a classic should be left to putter along with the internal combustion prescribed by its designers. Others would argue that it’s a great way to bring a classic car into the future. Then there is the argument that some cars suit an EV conversion. Big, luxury cars like the Citroën DS for example, weren’t known for their brilliant engines. So why not swap out the old liquid-dinosaur-exploder for something more modern. And finally, there is the argument of the performance on offer. An electric powertrain can deliver staggering figures, and that’s in a modern, heavy car. In a classic featherweight? Well, that’s going to translate to more in the way of speed. And that is exactly what Oxfordshire-based Everrati is bringing to the table with this, the ‘Signature’ Porsche 964.

It might seem somewhat sacrilegious to rip the flat-six of the 964’s rump, but stay with us here. This Everrati ‘Signature’ version based on a wide body platform is nothing short of a performance monster, and one that makes the original mechanicals look like those of a Beetle. Fitted with a 53kWh battery pack, the electric motors deliver 500bhp and 500Nm to the rear wheels. There’s a Quaife ATB torque-biasing differential to make sure said power can get to the floor. It’ll hit 62mph in under four seconds, and it has a range of around 150miles. It is a serious bit of kit.

The transformation to electric power also involves the optimisation of weight distribution, chassis response and safety to enhance the performance of the original while at the same time maintaining its character and soul. Former British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) Champion and Porsche Carrera Cup Driver’s Champion, Tim Harvey, has supported much of the car’s development. There has been some serious work here, make no mistake. This isn’t just a Porsche with a battery lobbed in the back! If you want proof of jut how serious Everrati is about building the best cars possible, it has just teamed up with Michelin to ensure every car has the best connection to the road possible.

As Everrati strives for an emission free future for performance and luxury cars, its quest for the ultimate in tyres lead the company to Michelin. Everrati CEO Justin Lunny explains:

“When we launched Everrati™ in 2019, it was our mission to create the most desirable, technically advanced, sustainable, zero-emission iconic cars in the world. To fulfil that vision, and to provide discerning customers with a peerless product engineered with industry-leading technology, rigour and attention to detail, we assembled an elite engineering team from OEM, supercar, motorsport, aerospace and EV technology backgrounds.

“To that end, I am delighted that we are partnering with leading tyre manufacturer Michelin. Our ‘Signature’ widebody flagship develops 500bhp and 500Nm of torque. The weight balance is identical to the internal combustion version, it just happens to produce twice the power. Finding a tyre that could cope with our requirements wasn’t easy, until we tried the Pilot Cup Sport 2. We’ve been very happy with the results the tyre has delivered and are absolutely delighted our new car will be one of the Michelin Supercar Paddock star cars at the Festival of Speed. Allowing visitors to see a unique car like our all-electric iconic Porsche is what’s great about Goodwood and we look forward to showing the car, thanks to Michelin.”

Is it cheap? No, of course not. These things seldom are. You’re looking at £250,000 plus your donor vehicle. And that figure can rise with options and customisation etc. But you’ll be getting a classic icon that is well and truly futureproof. It’s not just a powertrain; you also get heated seats, modern connectivity, regenerative braking, air conditioning and if you plump for it, carbon bodywork. This is a work of art, make no mistake.

If this classic Porsche with a modern twist tickles your pickle, you can get up close and personal with at Goodwood, as it will be on display in the Michelin Supercar Paddock. One of the ‘must see’ sections of the Festival of Speed, it gives fans a chance to see the most desirable, exclusive and beautiful cars on the planet, often for the first time.
