It’s All in the Details…

Cleaning your car in 2021 is no longer just cleaning your car. You can, of course, just throw a bucket of soapy water over your car and call it a day. But where’s the fun in that? To make your car truly shine, you need to detail it. Detailing, for the uninitiated, is the fine art of cleaning your car to levels that would make a showroom model blush. Is it easy? Of course not. It takes hours, it take a great deal of care and attention, and you’re going to need a barrage of buffing cloths and a considerable collection of cleaning products. But trust us, it’s deeply enjoyable, it’s incredibly satisfying and it’s a wonderful way to spend time on your classic.

Happily, this being 2021 and all, the internet is awash with content to satisfy your appetite for cleaning. YouTube is a veritable hotbed of content creators, all keen to not only offer satisfying videos in which cars are transformed, but also seemingly endless advice on what to do and how to do it. If you’ve never detailed a car, spend some time watching the content below and you’ll be champing at the bit to have a go. We’ve chosen five of the big hitters of the detailing world. Each one has their own style, and each one is also rich on information and advice.

Finally, if this collection of content does indeed motivate you to have a go at detailing, there are all manner of products for you to use. We have done the hard work for you by picking interior detailing kit, engine bay detailing kit, paint protection kit and much, much more.

1) Ammo NYC

Larry Kosilla, the man behind Ammo NYC, is a detailing god. There is seemingly nothing this man can’t bring back to a showroom shine. Larry is at the top of our pile not only because his videos are very well shot, but also because he’s incredibly forthcoming with information, advice and also content relating to the science of detailing. If you’re looking for someone to put their arm around you and walk you through the world of detailing, Larry is that person. Be warned though, his hugely popular YouTube channel is a rabbit hole from which you’re going to find it hard to escape! It’s compulsive viewing!

2) Autoshine Cars

Based in Blackpool, Autoshine Cars seem to take delight in cleaning the most appalling of vehicles. Finance repossessions, stolen recovered, that kind of thing. Cars that most people would be all ‘nah, you’re okay’ about. But, by cleaning life back into these cars, Autoshine shows that nothing is beyond redemption. Furthermore, the impossibly Scottish host of the videos is keen to share hints and tips, as well as sharing information about what products he’s using. Some of the cars look like they simply can’t be saved, but every time, he manages to do it. Captivating, satisfying viewing, and a window into just what can be achieved with a bit of elbow grease.

3) Auto Finesse

Auto Finesse has made a name for itself as one of the UK’s leading detailers. Taking a huge amount of pride in the work they do and the way they present it, their video content has to be some of the best out there. More than just a YouTube channel, Auto Finesse is also a business with its own vast range of detailing products. All of which are the result of much testing and development, and all of which are put through their paces in the videos. You can watch what these guys and girls do, how they do it, and then buy the very same products they do it with. Talk about a one stop shop!

4)  Every Day Detailing

We love Every Day Detailing. It’s just one man, a whole host of products and lots of good content laden with advice. Charged with the task of breathing life back into part exchange and trade cars from motor dealers, the chap behind this channel does the impossible and makes once hideous machines look near new. He explains what he’s doing, how he’s doing it, what products to use and he’s also keen to offer tips, tricks, do’s and don’t’s. If you’re looking for a gentle, relaxed way into detailing, this is it. Watch the video with the Beetle that has been spray painted – it’s a remarkable transformation.

5) The Detail Geek

Finally, we’re taking a trip over to Canada to visit The Detail Geek. This chap seems to revel in filth, as he takes on some utterly heinous automobiles that haven’t seen a wet sponge for, in some cases, decades. Again, he explains what he’s doing, how he’s doing it and what products he’s using. He shoots the videos very well indeed, and the results of his detailing endeavours are always stunning. Though be warned, it always looks really bloody cold – like when he cleans the Dodge Challenger that literally freezes before he gets the chance to dry it off!
