The Appeal
In 2+2 guise, the V12-engined Series 3 is the ultimate grand touring E-Type. GTs were becoming wildly popular by the late 1960s, hence Jaguar developed the two-door XJC and XJ-S. In addition, the long-lived E-Type was modified to suit buyers' wants, receiving the firm's new 5.3-litre V12 for a more long-legged character.
Here we have the most desirable of the 2+2 Series 3s: a right-hand drive E-Type with a four-speed manual gearbox. Automatic transmissions were a popular choice in period, but the manual is the only choice for keen drivers. Few classics stir the soul quite like an E-type, and the combination here of a 5,300cc V12 engine with a 4-speed manual gearbox makes for a particularly engaging proposition. It also had an air-condition, overdrive and heated rear window fitted by Jaguar South Africa.
Our car shows 43,095 miles on the odometer and is presented in very good overall condition. It has recently benefited from a full service and the renewal of all door and bonnet seals. For those seeking an E-type with the character of the V12 and the engagement of a manual gearbox, this is well worth closer inspection.OUL_7463 Luke Papworth.jpg6.31 MB
