The Appeal

8th May 1945: VE Day marks the end of the Second World War in Europe, but there's little time to waste in celebration for British businesses. Motor manufacturers like MG had spent the last six years building munitions, tanks and aeroplane engines, but with their War Office contracts at an end, they needed to develop new models, fast. 

Within six weeks of ceasing wartime production, MG had put the TC into production. And thanks to a burgeoning American export market for the uniquely British two-seater sports car, business was soon booming. 
This MG TC has undergone an extensive restoration at some point in the past and it continues to present very well without losing its delightful period charm. Despite some slight age-commensurate wear and a few foibles identified by the vendor, this TC would be a compelling addition to any garage - especially if you fancy a light recommissioning project.

History and Paperwork

  • Right-hand drive
  • 3,971 miles indicated - true figure unknown
  • The car has been driven very little during recent years
  • Four previous owners since its import from South Africa
  • Accompanied by a collection of paperwork
  • Exempt from road tax and MOT

The Condition

  • The vendor understands that the MG was restored some years ago although exact details are not known
  • It certainly presents very well throughout and benefits from having been stored well and used sparingly
  • The red paintwork retains an even gloss across all panels and appears in very good overall condition
  • The paint is very bright with only a few scratches and stone chips
  • The interior and trim have also benefitted from some restoration but have since accrued a pleasing patina
  • There is some micro blistering to the scuttle panel and brightwork, but nothing especially noticeable
  • The aforementioned brightwork is reportedly original and unrestored from 1948

The Mechanics

  • 1,250 cc XPAG l4
  • Manual transmission with four gears
  • Smartly presented engine compartment
  • Mechanically, the car appears very sound and reportedly drives well besides a few small issues listed below
  • The vendor notes a high spot on one of the brake drums
  • The speedometer is currently stuck
  • The horn and heater are not working
  • The brake lights are not presently working correctly either
