Presenting this fantastic Aston Martin V8 Vantage X-Pack, in Cannock Black with Black interior featuring dark red piping and carpets edges. The car has a fantastically detailed history, with no expense spared, and is renowned as Britain’s first supercar as well as being an iconic Aston Martin.
The Aston Martin V8 Vantage was born in 1977 as a ‘high performance version’ of the V8. The engine was uprated, pushing power up to 380 bhp and later 390 bhp. The car was given the title of Britain’s ‘First Supercar’, pushing 170 mph and featuring as a Bond car in ‘The Living Daylights’, and later in ‘No Time To Die’. Aston produced an uprated engine with development from Cosworth, pushing power up to 403 bhp for the Aston Martin V8 Zagato. The new ‘580X’ engine was also offered for standard V8 Vantages, known as the X-pack cars, with only 137 coupes produced.
Manufactured in January 1988, #12595 was built to UK specification, being the only X-Pack car in black on black with the automatic gearbox and sunroof. The car has been very well maintained, with no expense spared and a very well documented history. The car first came to us in 2024, receiving an engine, ignition and carburettor service to ensure it runs as it should.
The car has proven reliability with due care and attention. All issues have been documented and resolved, with our recent service and VHC showing no further work required. To drive, the car has fantastic power and thunderous noise. The steering is quite heavy at low speeds, but gives the car great stability and directness. High powered ventilated disc brakes have incredible stopping power. The seats offer great levels of comfort for long distances and the engine performance has been freed up with this newer 4 speed automatic gearbox.
This Cannock Black presents beautifully, with only a few stone chips, receiving paint correction in 2025. The exterior trim and windows, and wheels are also in great condition. Inside, the black leather interior is a fantastic place to be, featuring a few ageing creases as expected for a car of this age. The dash is made from high quality walnut, giving a luxurious backing to the smiths dials. The car, mechanically, is in great working order with the engine rebuilt in 2022 and the gearbox being replaced in 2011, with the car now ready for the next 100, 000 miles.
The 5. 3 litre V8 engine produces great torque low down and 403bhp, features Cosworth internals and makes a truly thunderous sound and deep burble at low rpm. The 4 speed gear box unlocks more performance whilst still holding character as a refined GT car. The chassis superstructure is a heavy-duty, steel construction with hand pressed aluminium body panels. The excellent road holding is down to the independent double wishbones and a De Dion axle at the rear, with anti-roll bars. The all round ventilated disc brakes are praised for their excellent performance. The car’s heavy steering traded lightness for stability and directness giving good feedback and a sporting composure. The 16 inch Ronal wheels are a lovely lattice design in aluminium alloy. The tyres are Michelin Radical X Pilot Sports, dated from 2021, are regarded for their performance and durability, in very good condition.
The car comes with a very extensive paperwork file, with replacement service book from 1995 onwards. The main highlights are a conversion from 3 speed auto to 4 speed auto in 2011 and a full engine rebuild at an Aston Martin specialist in 2022.
