At the recommendation of Porsche's US importer, Max Hoffman, the 356 Speedster brought a lower-cost alternative to the rather expensive Cabriolet. With a distinctive lowered windshield and a fairly spartan interior, the Speedster was the perfect choice for driving enthusiasts and would-be racers. The car proved to be exactly what the company needed to increase sales, and the style quickly became legendary.
