Originally delivered as a four-seater in red and first registered as JB 1921, this Singer 9hp Le Mans left the factory on 7th April 1933. After decades in the UK, it crossed the Atlantic in 1983 to join the collection of William Hastings in New York, before returning home in 2004.
A year later, the Singer found a new owner in the Cotswolds, who approached its next chapter with a mix of mechanical sympathy and practical thinking. The original engine and gearbox were rebuilt and preserved, and the car was adapted for more regular use with a thoughtfully installed 1296cc Triumph Spitfire MkIII engine and 4-speed gearbox with overdrive. The conversion was thorough: the replacement engine received new rings, big end shells, and an unleaded head conversion before installation. At the same time, the braking system was uprated, indicators and seatbelts were added, and the coachwork was modified to a two-seat configuration.
Recently, our on-site workshop carried out a full oil service and chassis lubrication, fitted a new water pump, overhauled the brakes (including new linings and refreshed wheel cylinders), and re-wired the indicators with a new column-mounted switch. Cosmetically, the car was freshly refinished in black with British Racing Green wheels. The weather equipment includes side screens and a tonneau cover.
