The Appeal
The W180 was a real triumph for Mercedes' Stuttgart factory. It offered a surprisingly capable long-distance cruiser, with impressive Ponton styling and the company's already legendary standard for build quality. The post-war period for Mercedes-Benz really did clarify many of the marque's core tenets, and the W180 is proof positive.
They're pretty scarce on British soil too - the post-war period saw limited sales in the UK for most German brands, and it's made the 220S quite the rare sight.
This particular right-hand drive example benefits from a life spent in the dry Australian climate before being imported to the UK in 2017 by a knowledgeable Mercedes-Benz Club member who previously ran the spares register. The car is a solid, rust-free undercarriage that's rarely found on European examples of this age.
