The innovative 700 was of enormous importance in BMW's history: despite their success, by the 1950s the small front-opening Isettas and 600s no longer met European motorists' growing demands for comfort and performance, forcing the Munich-based company to take corrective action.
Built with an innovative monocoque construction, the 700 sported modern and pleasing lines, designed by Giovanni Michelotti and finalised by Wilhelm Hofmeister, creator of the unmistakable design that would distinguish BMWs in the years to come. The rear-mounted twin-cylinder boxer engine, capable of 30 hp, gave it a lively performance, also thanks to its weight of only 640 kg.
Spacious and elegant, the 700 did not enjoy great sales success in Italy due to its very high cost. This makes this beautifully preserved example particularly rare and valuable: still equipped with its original number plates and registration documents, this BMW has belonged to a Roman family since new, who have always kept it with great care and stored it in their garage.
The bodywork, solid and correct, has been repainted in its original colour and the interior has been partially redone using materials similar to the original. The mechanics, which have always been carefully maintained over the years, were recently serviced.
Rare, well preserved and always maintained with care, this 700 will be delivered with a newly renewed overhaul and represents an unrepeatable opportunity to secure a truly remarkable example of a practical and fascinating car with great historical and collector relevance. 20250614_193532.jpg2.99 MB
