The Appeal
On its introduction, the 456 was the most powerful and expensive production Ferrari ever built, retailing at the equivalent of £340,000 when new. But for those who wanted something even more special and bespoke, there was the Scaglietti tailoring programme. Just 20 GTAs and 10 GTs went through this expensive scheme, with the first car being gifted to Michael Schumacher. Henceforth, these cars are generally known as ‘Schumacher Edition’ cars.
Finding one of these 30 cars is exceptionally difficult. Here we have the next best thing. It is a 2000 456 ‘Modificata’ GTA that began life with a Rosso Corsa paint job over Nero leather. In 2017, Ferrari specialist Rardley Motors converted it to ‘Bicolore’ Scaglietti specification, taking as their template the actual car specified by and supplied to the Formula One supremo.
The vendor acquired the car soon after and has clearly cherished it and preserved it just like the previous keepers. That distinctive paint scheme is in very good order, just some minor and barely visible stone chips to the front to note. Inside the leather looks barely used. The car has covered less than 48,000 miles from new.
The service history runs to 45,646 miles and has been undertaken by main dealers and well regarded specialist. The all-important cambelt change took place in 2021 - around 4,000 miles ago - and the vendor reports that the car has had £10,000 of expenditure within the last six years. It was the cover star of the July 2016 issue of Classic & Sportscar magazine.
Sold with its valuable leather-bound book pack and tool kit, this is a very fine example of one of the best GTs of recent years. It comes to market with the added reassurance of a lengthy, advisory-free MOT to October 2025.
The vendor says:
“This is a beautiful example of one of the best touring Ferraris ever made. It is a joy to drive and eats up the miles on the open road. It looks and sounds beautiful and must be seen.”
