The Appeal
Triumph's managing director Sir John Black desperately wanted a sports car to take on Jaguar. Designed during the final days of the Second World War, the Triumph Roadster used aluminium coachwork, formed over an ash frame owing to the steel shortages. This created a lightweight, corrosion-resistant body that made the most of the Roadster's relatively modest 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine, affording a 75 mph top speed.
Having undergone a comprehensive chassis-up restoration before the current owner's purchase in 2017, this 1948 example has been thoughtfully upgraded with modern conveniences while maintaining its period charm. With reconditioned mechanicals, fresh upholstery, and careful storage, this car presents in lovely condition for its age and is ready to be enjoyed at classic car shows and touring events.
