The Appeal
The DB2 is special. So special that David Brown bought Lagonda so that he could get his hands on the W.O. Bentley straight-six DOHC engine, just to create it. In so doing, he set the template for a long line of DB-badged GT cars that continues, using the same basic principles, today.
The DB2/4, as the name implies, added small rear seats to increase practicality. From 1955 the MK2 got light cosmetic improvements. Just 34 Fixed Head Coupé ‘saloons’ were built, and this car must be one of the only ones to have remained with the single original keeper since new.
According to a useful BMIHT certificate, it retains its original burgundy over grey leather colour scheme. Over the last 20 years, it has been subject to a restoration. The work has focused on the mechanicals, with over £11,000 spent on repairs since 2020 alone. The engine and suspension have been rebuilt, new timing chains fitted and the clutch replaced.
Clearly, there is work to do to complete it. But that is good news for the buyer who wants an interesting way into ownership of these scarce cars with scope to complete and specify as you wish.
The vendor says:
“This is a one-off chance to buy a completely untouched example of one of the greatest Astons ever built.”
