The Appeal
There’s something about a proper MGB Roadster that just makes you feel like you’ve got a seat on the set of The Italian Job — only without the exploding vans. This 1970 model ticks the right boxes: British Racing Green, chrome details, a black soft-top and just enough patina to convince strangers you’ve owned it since the Beatles split up. It’s aged gracefully, unlike most of us, with a solid shine to the bodywork, a clean cabin that still smells like the ‘70s, and dials that have survived five decades of sun, rain and fiddly MOT testers.
It’s been looked after, clearly. The owner’s been happy to put money where the tappets are, tackling everything from a new oil cooler assembly and ignition components to fettling the rear brakes and even sorting the glovebox catch — which, frankly, is a level of commitment most marriages don’t get.
There are a few honest blemishes. The paint has its little scars, the boot shows some light surface rust, and the bonnet cable was previously seized (but sorted). But it’s a car with history, character, and a thick folder of paperwork, and you wouldn’t want one that’s been babied into a museum piece anyway.

The Condition
Finished in a classic shade of dark green, the MGB wears its age with dignity. The paintwork is glossy and uniform, with some light scratching visible on closer inspection — nothing alarming. There’s some honest rust in the boot floor and around the spare wheel well, as pictured, but it’s largely superficial. Panel fit is good and the chrome bumpers and trim shine well.
Inside, the black vinyl seats are in solid shape, showing light creasing but no splits or tears. The dash is tidy, with all gauges readable, though some dials show mild signs of ageing. The steering wheel, gear knob and switches are all period-correct and fully functional. The hood fits nicely and appears in good condition.
Under the bonnet, the engine bay presents cleanly. Hoses, wiring and ancillaries all appear sound, with the recent work reflected in the visible condition. There’s some age-related grime, but nothing out of keeping with a usable classic.
