The Appeal
The Swedish have always stuck out for the rock-solid nature of their cars. While the Italians craved sheer performance and sophistication, you could take the Saab 900 almost anywhere with little protest. It was as if a driver of these angular '90s convertibles could take on the Tundra.
During the 80s though, Saab also carved out a remarkable provenance for turbo charging. A Turbo saab could offer an impressive turn of speed without carving through the car's respectable fuel economy, and thanks to their rather affable character, the cars were still very practical - not merely a toy.
More than three decades later, a Saab 900 Convertible is the epitome of a more practical summer driver - and this particular example is exceptionally rare as one of just 54 UK cars finished in the striking Monte Carlo Yellow, further distinguished by its exclusive Abbott Racing T7 conversion performed when new as part of a special Saab City edition. Having covered just 56,731 mies from new and remaining in the same family ownership since 1996, this is an exceptional opportunity - and not one you should let pass you by.
The vendor notes:
"This car is best described as an absolute joy. It's impossible not to feel privileged driving it, and the reaction from people when they see it never gets old. I've had more conversations with random strangers because of this car than I care to mention, but it's all part of the joyous experience. The car is a cruiser rather than a sports car and is happiest on a long drive at 60 mph. The suspension is tight and rattle-free, and the car handles beautifully. It has great mid-range punch and has no problem keeping up, but it's at its best on a leisurely afternoon drive with the roof down. The colour is glorious and adds to the car's rarity, and the overall condition is truly amazing. Taken as a whole, I believe this is one of the nicest, lowest-mileage and most original Monte Carlo 900s that will ever come to market. No dirty secrets under pristine new paint, but an exceptional original that wears its few flaws proudly on its sleeve, all of which could be rectified with minimal time and expense."
