The Appeal

To those in the know, the Nissan 180SX Type R occupies a special place in the pantheon of 1990s Japanese sports cars. A close relative of the legendary Skyline, the 180SX earned its cult following through its balanced rear-wheel-drive chassis and turbocharged SR20DET engine, a combination that made it the weapon of choice for drifting and motorsport enthusiasts. The Type R variant raised the bar with factory-upgraded suspension, brakes, a limited-slip differential, sports seats, reduced weight, and a 200bhp output.

This 1998 example, imported from Japan, is a rare find in that it remains largely as it left the factory. The original SR20DET engine is in place, and the car retains its factory sunroof, Type R aero spoiler, body kit, and really cool velour sports interior. The few aftermarket additions: coilover suspension, exhaust system, air filter, and Rays 17" wheels, are tasteful and in keeping with the car's character.

The vendor states the interior is in very good condition, with the original seat decals and trim looking smart. Body and the bodywork is reported to present extremely well.

Graded 4/b at auction in Japan and accompanied by its service history and manufacturer's books, this 180SX Type R represents an increasingly scarce opportunity to acquire one of Japan's most iconic sports cars in well-preserved, largely original form.
