The Appeal
Since the original post-war XK, Jaguar has made the long, low, purposeful, powerful and cossetting GT car entirely its own. The XJ-S continued the theme. There is a strong case to argue that the XJS convertible is one of the best and most usable post-war GT drop tops ever built.
Perhaps no surprise then that good, low-mileage early examples with the superlative V12 motor are in demand. Here we have exactly that, a 1989 Signal Red car that has covered less than 55,000 miles from new. It is pleasingly factory standard and in really good order - the cream and burr walnut interior, often prone to wear, is remarkably preserved.
The history file shows a similar story. Despite the paltry mileage, the car has been regularly maintained. Alongside servicing by main dealers and specialists, recent work includes a steering column rebuild and rear axle overhaul. The current MOT runs to June 2026.
