The Appeal
Once the Mazda MX-5 demonstrated the allure of blending European roadster design with Japanese dependability, other manufacturers went on to launch their own two-seaters. Honda’s S2000 was one of the more considered takes on this roadster renaissance, created to celebrate the company’s 50th anniversary in 1999 and reprising the S nomenclature from its Sports car ranges of the 1960s.
This particular car was one of the first S2000s to roll off the production line at a purpose-built factory in Japan. It stayed in its home country for some time, before being imported into the UK with its original documentation and stickers. It has covered just over 62,286 miles during the last quarter-century.
The current owner describes this S2000 as being “in exceptional condition”, as you’d expect from a Honda. They also report that “no expense has been spared by the former keepers or myself”, and this diligent maintenance extends to the roof, which was replaced a few thousand miles ago and is described as being “as new”. Similar sentiments can be expressed about the five-spoke alloy wheels, wearing Goodyear tyres at the front and Bridgestones at the rear – all with generous tread levels.
The Monte Carlo blue paintwork shimmers in the sun, and the interior shows only light wear across the half-leather seats, while the dashboard has an original radio-cassette player hidden behind a drop-down flap. This is a time capsule modern classic, presented in very good order and promising many years of dependable service.
