The Appeal

Creativity fuels our classic scene, as this glorious Allis-Chalmers proved. It began life as a well-regarded agricultural workhorse for small and medium farms; today it is a low-riding style icon and sure-fire conversation starter.
If you’re approaching this more from the low rider end of things, rather than the farming one, here’s a little background. Allis-Chalmers was a Wisconsin-based American firm with roots dating back to 1847. It started making tractors in 1914 and introduced the Model C in 1940. It was aimed at small to medium farms and was a huge success, with 84,000 sold over nine years. Its appeal lay in its two-row capability, adjustable front suspension, stable wide track, light weight and strong engine.
Those last few qualities make it an ideal candidate for low rider. The work has involved lowering the body, widening the track and making a raft of improvements to increase usability. The original hand-crank starting system has been replaced with a modern electric starter motor, complemented by a 12-volt electrical conversion, petrol conversion, reconditioned magneto, dynamometer, and new battery. These modifications transform the ownership experience while preserving the tractor's working capability.
Cosmetically, it features hand-painted Allis-Chalmers lettering, custom-fabricated rear mudguards, working headlights, and new tyres all round. Fully road legal, reportedly ULEZ compliant (not verified), and supplied with its V5 registration document, this is a practical piece of agricultural history and eye-catching show stopper that is ready to be enjoyed.
