The Appeal
Introduced in 1956 with a significantly increased wheelbase, the 107" Land Rover offered greater versatility and crew comfort than its smaller sibling, and made for a perfect Station Wagon. Surviving examples of particularly early 107"s are rather scarce today, and this 1956 car is reported by the vendor to be among the very first built.
Originally supplied new from Henly's in Piccadilly as their demonstrator vehicle, this car was purchased by the current owner in 2016 as a non-runner. It was immediately entrusted to a specialist restorer for an extensive two-year rebuild, supported by invoices totalling over £60,000. The chassis was fully stripped, and every corroded section was cut out and replaced, with originality retained wherever possible. The bodywork was resprayed in P1 Grey, a colour confirmed by the British Motor Museum as correct at the time of manufacture, while period-correct Avon Traction Mileage tyres were fitted to complete the authentic look.
The interior yielded a welcome discovery: beneath several layers of previous re-trims, the original trim was found intact. Timber seat bases were subsequently re-trimmed to the original specification by Exmoor Trim, and the headlining was replaced. Mechanically, every moving part was removed, cleaned, and replaced where necessary, with the only non-standard addition being an overdrive unit. The vendor reports that it starts on the button.
Since the restoration was completed, this Land Rover has been dry stored and has not been driven. For those seeking a meticulously restored early 107" station wagon with distinguished provenance and painstaking attention to period correctness, this is a compelling opportunity.image.png1.71 MB
