Highlights
- Underwent a 'nut and bolt' restoration twenty years ago
- Matching numbers: original engine, gearbox, and axles retained
- Just passed MOT with no advisories despite being exempt
The Appeal
The Series I represents the genesis of the iconic Land Rover lineage, with its simple, utilitarian design and off-road capability inspired by the American Willys Jeep. Manufactured from lightweight, corrosion-resistant aluminium surplus from the war effort, this was just the sort of rugged car Britain needed for 1950s recovery.
This 1956 example is the 86" version, supplied new in May of that year to Mann Egerton in Norfolk. It’s had 10 registered keepers in total, four of whom were from the same family, while the last owner had the car for fifteen years.
We're informed that a comprehensive 'nut and bolt' restoration was performed twenty years ago, and as the photographs attest, this has held up very well indeed. Offered voluntarily MOT tested, this much-loved Series I is ready to meet its next custodian.
