The Appeal
The BSA A10 Golden Flash is one of the most iconic British motorcycles of the 1950s, renowned for its reliable 650cc parallel-twin engine. BSA had been falling behind in the parallel-twin race, still relying on bug thudding singles. The Birmingham-based firm lacked expertise to build such an engine, and so enticed engineer Bert Hopwood away from his job at Norton. Hopwood had been on Edward Turner's design team for the Triumph Speed Twin; for years, this was the gold standard for parallel-twin cylinder engines.
This 1958 Golden Flash is paired with the highly sought-after Steib model S 501 sidecar, creating a stunning combination that reportedly (and indeed understandably) turns heads wherever it goes. Presented in a beautiful matching black colour scheme and showing just 9,782 miles, this combination presents beautifully, with impressive detailing on both the motorcycle and sidecar.
The vendor tells us:
"I bought the bike 4 years ago from a local specialist British bike dealer and it came with a full service. Regularly started and was started at the photoshoot in July 2025 (see video). Useful history file including old Mots going back 27 years, tax discs and service /renovation works including new clutch, carb rebuild, piston rings, pushrods, cam followers, brake shoes, new cables, speedo rebuild and calibration, dynamo rebuild etc."
