The Appeal
The early post-war years were a golden era for sports car racing. A new generation of engineers and drivers that had honed their skills during the Second World War turned their attentions to motorsport. The MGA was devastatingly effective on track, racking-up a string of victories in race series all around the world. With its lightweight roadster body, eager B-Series engine, and well-balanced handling, it remains a popular and competitive choice across a range of historic racing series in the UK.
This 1959 example has been built and campaigned by its current owner for over 30 years, accumulating more than 250 race entries across prestigious series including the Thoroughbred Sportscar Championship, MGCC BCV8 Championship, CSCC Swinging Sixties, and Equipe '50s. Most recently, it took a 1st in Class at the 2026 Donington Historic meeting with the HRDC All Stars, recording 1:33 laps in the dry — and was driven to and from the circuit on the road.
Under the bonnet sits a race-tuned 1,840cc BMC B-Series engine featuring a steel crankshaft, Arrow connecting rods, forged pistons, gas-flowed cylinder head, and race camshaft. The gearbox is a Jack Knight straight-cut four-speed unit recently rebuilt by MG Motorsport. The vendor, who has raced several MGAs over the years, describes this as a well-sorted example ready for immediate use and still pleasant to drive on the road.MGA_Race-6.jpg2.47 MB
