The Appeal
Jaguar bought Daimler because it wanted the extra production capacity. What it also got was Edward Turner’s brilliant 2.5L V8, which was something of an embarrassment because it was smoother and more modern than Jaguar’s elderly XK.
Dropping that motor into the Mk2 bodyshell arguably creates a Daimler that is better in many ways than its Jaguar equivalent. That mix of smooth V8, relaxing auto box and Daimler accoutrements certainly makes these cars great classic tourers that are ideal for events and rallies.
Regency Red over cream leather is one of the most popular combinations for these cars and this 21/2 Litre V8 is amongst the nicest we’ve seen in a long while. It is an older restoration that has been in the hands of the current keeper since completion. The quality of the work is clear from the photos, as is his evident care. Usual check areas like panel fit, arches and sills present well.
The car comes to market with a huge history file including its original green log book. It is a really good example of one of the ‘60s best saloons with the added bonus or power steering.
