The Appeal
Ducati's narrow case 250cc single is one of the most celebrated engines in classic motorcycle racing. Lightweight, rev-happy and beautifully engineered, these Italian singles have earned a devoted following among historic racing competitors; they're purpose-built for it. A storied, trophied example is bound to attract attention.
This 1966 example has been built into a formidable classic racer with a specification list to match its results. The engine benefits from special Phil Joy cams, a twin-plug head, a Dellorto carburettor, Ignitek electronic ignition, and a five speed gearbox with Nova straight cut primary gears and selector box, while a new big end and con rod were fitted in October 2025. Chassis-wise, it sits on Falcon shocks with new swingarm bushes, and is fitted with Barleycorn rear sets and levers, an alloy tank, a bespoke high-level exhaust system and fresh Continental race tyres.
The results speak for themselves. In 2025, this Ducati won the National Sprint Association Championship in the up to 350cc class, set the current course record at Smeatharpe's 1/8 mile sprint, and was the fastest four-stroke up to 350cc at both the Betteshanger heritage sprint and Houghton Tower hill climb. It also holds a previous Class A win at the prestigious Brighton Speed Trials. The vendor describes it as a cherished bike that has been well looked after, with oil changed after every meeting.
