The Appeal

The 1967 VW Splitscreen T2 panel van is among the most coveted variants of Volkswagen's legendary transporter, prized for its split front windscreen and air-cooled character. This example, originally a Microbus and since converted to panel van form, was imported from Thailand and has been in the current owner's care since 2011, some 15 years of custodianship spent enjoying it across Yorkshire and Suffolk.

During that time, the owner has invested significant effort into the vehicle. Most of the bodywork has been stripped back to bare metal and lacquered, and the vendor reports the body is solid overall. Mechanically, the van benefits from a range of upgrades: CSP front disc brakes, a Creative Engineering steering system with Lite Steer power steering, independent rear suspension, a stainless steel exhaust, a CSP quick shifter, and a Beetle 1300 Sport gearbox better suited to motorway cruising speeds. The 1,584 flat-four engine is reported to be unmodified and to run nicely. Inside, a full-width rock and roll bed, removable table, and Gas Propex heater make this a usable proposition for weekends away. The vendor notes that new door skins and a lower driver's side panel would further improve the vehicle for those pursuing a higher-level restoration, but as it stands this is a well-sorted Splitscreen with real character.
